Years of dedication and focus finally paid off for Szymon Godziek, who scored the highest-placed run at the world’s most prestigious mountain bike competition on Saturday.
Godziek overcame the Utah desert’s harsh elements—the dust, the wind, the heat—to build what judges considered one of the most awe-inspiring and creative lines on the iconic moonscape. Godziek then performed under immense pressure, nailing a series of dynamic, highly technical tricks with effortless style and massive amplitude. Unfortunately, high winds and wild weather moved in midway through the event. Rampage rules dictate that no winner can be declared without giving every rider the opportunity to compete.
